Identify the task before narrowing the location
For property work, specify buying, selling or a dispute. For estate work, distinguish planning documents from administration after a death. For business work, identify whether you need advice, a revised document or negotiations. This makes a location search useful instead of producing a long list of offices with a broad label. If the matter involves an interstate asset or counterparty, ask how that changes the proposed engagement.
Check how a regional enquiry will be handled
If you are comparing Adelaide with Mount Gambier, Whyalla, Port Lincoln or another location, ask who would actually conduct the work and where meetings occur. A branch address does not guarantee a particular practitioner's attendance. Ask whether phone or video is available for the first stage, how originals or signing requirements are handled, and whether travel or an additional professional would be separately charged.
Use South Australian public resources
The Law Society of South Australia provides a practising-certificate register as a professional-status starting point. The Legal Services Commission is South Australia's legal-aid organisation.
